As a result, the deck continues to be in the best-sellers lists on Amazon* and it's hardly surprising that the Wildwood (and many other beautiful decks!) has caught the eye of the counterfeiting trade.<br /><br />I manage the Wildwood Tarot website contact form and I have lost track of the number of requests I have received for copies of the deck's companion book - mostly because the person contacting me has been sold a fake Wildwood Tarot.<br /><br />Hopefully the video above will help people make an informed choice when thinking about buying a new Tarot deck. I'll make a new video to show what the newly published Wildwood looks like (new publisher details etc).</p><p>If you love a Tarot deck - not just the Wildwood, but ANY deck - the best way to support its creators is to buy a legitimate copy of that deck. Even if that means saving up for a few weeks. When people buy counterfeit decks, the money goes straight into the pocket of a criminal and counterfeiting is rarely a crime committed on its own; folks will be unwittingly supporting all kinds of crime.</p><p>Get clued up on what the legitimate deck is like - check out the publisher or creator's website. Double check what options there are for the deck you want to buy - the deck sizes, box designs, box content etc. </p><p>I would also point out that the counterfeiters are pulling up their prices to further try to catch people out; so even if a deck is being sold at the RRP, please check to make sure that it's legit. Message the seller and ask whether the paperback book is included - if it's not, well, you know that the deck is pirated.</p><p>If what you see on a selling platform doesn't match, then it's a counterfeit.</p><p>Today I notified Amazon of 15 counterfeit products.</p><p>And tomorrow I will no doubt do the same.</p><p>Please support the Tarot creatives that you love and don't buy fakes. </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-b-0jo50ZhjE/YNHkewdGd0I/AAAAAAAAGW8/FJuE7drPutsM-_aMDwulVTZ7QUgIwBWbQCLcBGAsYHQ/s995/fake%2Bwildwoods1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="995" data-original-width="758" height="391" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-b-0jo50ZhjE/YNHkewdGd0I/AAAAAAAAGW8/FJuE7drPutsM-_aMDwulVTZ7QUgIwBWbQCLcBGAsYHQ/w298-h391/fake%2Bwildwoods1.jpg" width="298" /></a></div><br /><span><br /></span><p></p><p>*as of today's date, the deck is the 3rd best-seller in the occult shamanism category of Amazon UK, the 12th best-seller in shamanism and in the 90th best-selling Tarot deck)</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7439856148666137440.post-21217301786639915372018-01-03T09:20:00.000+00:002018-01-03T09:20:00.069+00:00John Matthews | Celtic & Ancestral Shamanism | March 2018 and September 2018<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>

<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: left;">
We received a question this week from
a Wildwoodean via Twitter asking how a card such as the 10 of Cups, which is
over-brimming with happiness, could ever be considered negative, as when it
falls in a position such as ‘Actions to avoid?</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: left;">
<span style="text-indent: 1.27cm;"></span></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<span style="text-indent: 1.27cm;">This is one of
those times where a subtle reading of the card has to be taken and
perhaps considered along with its companions. Of course one would not
generally wish to avoid happiness. But there can be situations where
too much happiness can overwhelm – where joy can be too great to
bear, where life itself actually needs to be considered more
seriously, the happiness weighed against darker things.</span><br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: left;">
<span style="text-indent: 1.27cm;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: left;">
<span style="text-indent: 1.27cm;">Every tarot
reading seeks to reach a point of balance, where positive and
negative are cancelled out and the reality of a situation revealed
without its baggage of good and bad. If such a card were to land on
such a position with this meaning, I would look at the situation and
the cards that balance it, and try to find the fulcrum of balance.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: left;">
<span style="text-indent: 1.27cm;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: left;">
<span style="text-indent: 1.27cm;">Alternately, the
power of the card itself – which in this instance is one that
radiates joy, may actually override its position in the reading.
Though such events are rare they do happen and can overturn the
reading, causing it to become reversed or read in a wholly different
way.</span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<span lang="EN-US">A number of people have commented over the years on the fact that in The Wildwood Tarot the two cards, the Nine and Ten of Stones seem to be reversed. Traditional meanings for the Nine of Pentacles (Stones) include affluence, achievement and a more settled way of life; while the Ten is about realising one’s potential, archiving things and creating a settle home environment. They are thus quite closely related, and are traditionally seen as ending the sequence of the suit by bringing to fruition the efforts exercised by the previous Eight.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<span lang="EN-US"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<span lang="EN-US">Many of the changes implemented in the deck came about as a result of working with the pattern of the Wheel of the Year. The process thus revealed was revelatory. We could see the progression of the Fool through the Wildwood more clearly than ever before – and when it came to these two cards we felt that the traditional conclusion was arrived at too quickly. Rather than seeing the Nine as a point of rest and reflection, of achievement and completion, we wanted to show how the recognition of this lead naturally to a consideration of the established patterns and rhythms of life – in other words, tradition. Tradition is the holder of these things, and can always be accessed. Only then, when we have into focus the magical possibilities of life, can we safely reach the haven of Home (Stones 10)</span></div>

Every midwinter
here we present a different topic on a never to be repeated weekend,
so it becomes a unique experience for everyone. We do this every

our teacher.<br />

<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black;">From the late
1970s onwards, the writer and ceremonial magician, Gareth Knight,
held open magical weekends at Hawkwood College for anyone to attend.
Looking at these events from the perspective of 2013, it may not seem
like a big deal, but back in the 1970s, any rituals were generally
performed in private and only amongst the initiated. Gareth offered
everyone a chance to encounter the spiritual heart of the Western
mysteries. So it was that Hawkwood College became a beacon that,
like the hermit’s lantern, shines so that others can follow their
spiritual path.</span></div>

<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black;">These early
weekends were a proving ground for many magical teachers, including
R.J.Stewart whom Gareth invited to share his foundational work for
the first time in public. No-one who was present at R.J.’s
Underworld Initiation would forget the sound of his unique 80 string
psaltery. Friendships that we made at Hawkwood continue to this day,
making us colleagues in the Great Work with many wonderful teachers,
singers and artists. In 1985, Gareth handed over his December
weekend over to us to continue the work, which we have striven to do:
keeping an open mystery school for anyone to attend, as well as
working at a deeper level with the myths and mysteries of the land. </span>

<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black;"> When considering
what we would teach this year, we thought it was time that we looked
at the tarot. So this December we will be exploring the different
traditions of tarot – how it is read, what wisdom it has to reveal
to us, how we carry the flame of its mysteries onward - from the
perspectives of the court, the temple and the wildwood, with lots of
opportunities to play with your tarot cards. Tarot has survived in
all these ways and places: as gaming cards, oracle and window for
meditation.</span></div>

<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black;">The underlying
purpose of the Tarot Landscapes weekend is to acknowledge that
everyone who uses tarot keeps alight the lamp of the Hermit, pursuing
as seeker the path of the Fool in order to arrive at the unlocking of
wisdom that the High Priestess offers. Each of the 22 figures of the
tarot is a living archetype who invites us to look through the window
to other worlds. Whichever tarot you use, you will find their wisdom.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black;"> What happens at
our Hawkwood weekends? After dinner on arrival, there is an opening
ceremony and introduction, where we set the scene and get to know
each other. Then on Saturday, we and our guests teach the chosen
topic, with lots of interaction and dialogue, practical implement of
our divination skills, as well as touching base with the underlying
principles of tarot. On Saturday night, we have a ceilidh where
everyone who wishes to takes a turn to sing, read, recite or perform
around the fire, while refreshments are served. On Sunday, we
conclude our work by a group ritual in which everyone takes part: it
is especially written for the course and never repeated. This year we
are walking the </span><span style="color: black;"><i>Paths of the Wildwood</i></span><span style="color: black;">

intimate, relaxed and celebratory, since it is so near midwinter,
where many people come to reconnect with their spiritual family, the

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">Wildwood Rides Again - the Second Edition.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">When you're creating or working on a tarot, many things beyond your control can effect the end result. In the case of The Wildwood Tarot not only were we re-crafting an earlier version ( The Greenwood Tarot) but we faced limitations of extent in the text. Also we simply were often so excited, so carried away with the sheer blaze of creation, that we actually forgot about the card back ! We had discussed this with our artist Will Worthington and decided that a tree motif would be a part of it... but somehow, when It came to handing in the finished deck, we forgot. So, when it came around to the second edition - thanks to all those who took the new version of an old favourite to their hearts - we turned our thoughts to completing two omissions.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"></span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">First came the new card back. As ever Will rose to the occasion and came up with a wonderful head to head image of a tree, printed in white on green, which can be read either way up. Then we turned to something that not only we, but also several readers, had noted. The entries for the court cards, all depicting sacred animals, were very brief. So we spoke to the publisher and they agreed to re-jig the book so that we could add some longer entries. The only trouble was that by his time we were both hard at work on other projects. So we turned to the amazing Caitlin Matthews for help and in no time at all we had a set of meanings and interpretations that fit perfectly with what Mark and I had done earlier. So, at last, the job was really done. The Wildwood Tarot was complete.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">We are really delighted with this new edition, which extends the first just enough to make it overall as good as we could hope for. We hope very much that you enjoy it, and that as some have already said they would be purchasing a second copy, that you will feel it was worth it. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></span>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Lydian, sans-serif;">More
than one Tarotist has commented on the unusual interpretation of the
Five of Vessels (or Cups as they would be in a traditional tarot)
which diverges from the general interpretation of this card in
classic tarot. </span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Lydian, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Lydian, sans-serif;">In fact, the reason for this springs from a desire to
follow the journey of the Wanderer (The Fool) through the entire
deck, and to acknowledge the experiences that he/she (our Wildwood Fool is
non-gender specific) encounters along the way. If we explore the
‘story’ underlying the suit of Vessels we see how this works.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-family: Lydian, sans-serif;"></span></div>
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: Lydian, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-family: Lydian, sans-serif;">This
suit explores the profound mystery of the human emotions: </span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-family: Lydian, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-family: Lydian, sans-serif;">From the
<b>Ace</b> the Wanderer learns how to access memory, the very beginning of
the ancestral dream. </span><span style="font-family: Lydian, sans-serif;">Then, in the <b>Two</b> of Vessels he/she meets an
aspect of him/herself that offers a glimpse of completeness, of the
other self that has been missing from the start of his/her journey. </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Lydian, sans-serif;">In the <b>Three</b> of Vessels he/she reaches another point of emotional
understanding - the joys of family, the inner circle of friends and
relations who carry the central energy of the home. But this causes
the Wanderer to over extend him/herself and begins, in the<b> Four</b>, to suffer from
dissatisfaction, boredom, and ennui. </span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Lydian, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Lydian, sans-serif;">Thus we reach the <b>Five</b>. </span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Lydian, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Lydian, sans-serif;">Here
the Wanderer experiences a brief glimpse of inspiration, an access to
the divine which releases a spontaneous rush of joy, ecstasy. But
here the Wanderer learns that even these heightened feelings are
short lived, and is plunged back into a darker state. Thus the more
usual meaning of the 5 of Cups, longing or despair, undermines the
sense of wonder and delight, making it bitter sweet. </span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Lydian, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Lydian, sans-serif;">We felt and feel
that this makes more sense of the Wanderer’s ongoing story,
especially as it is followed by the <b>Six</b> of Vessels, which denotes the
welcome return of the inner unity expressed in the Two. With this comes
the remembrance of wholeness set against the fleeting passage of
ecstatic wonder in the Five. The weight of loss, the memory of that
divine impulse, is such that in the <b>Seven</b> the Wanderer mourns his/her
lost delight. From this moment, as the Wanderer accepts the path of
fate things begin to turn. </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Lydian, sans-serif;">A rebirth begins in the <b>Eight </b>of Vessels,
followed by a bursting fourth of joy that he/she wishes to share with
all. From this flows happiness, the waters overflowing the spring,
and the joy of the Wanderer, which had been present all along, issues
to the world. </span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Lydian, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Lydian, sans-serif;">In this way we see that while the 5 of Vessels appears
to contradict the more traditional meaning, it is essentially the
same. The ecstasy of the moment is fleeting and serves as a reminder
to the Wanderer of the way things had been and perhaps might be
again. It is a crucial turning point in his/her journey.</span></div>

This exciting development features a new design on the card back and additional copy in the accompanying book.<br />
<br />
The new card design, pictured here, is suitable for reading with reversals.<br />
<br />
The additional copy in the accompanying book adds more information for the Wildwood Tarot's Court Cards.<br />
<br />
The cardstock and box remain unchanged from the original printing, so, at the moment, there is no clear way to tell whether a boxed set is the original or the new updated version.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
Update: FIRST, despite what is showing on the Amazon UK site, there are plenty of copies of Wildwood to be had. If you are in a hurry we suggest you order direct from Connections Publishing, and if you mention the problem they might even give you a discount!<br />
<br />
SECOND: Unfortunately, although new copies of the Wildwood Tarot are now in the warehouse, there is no means for the suppliers to tell whether this is the revised reprint (not really a new edition) or the old one.<br />

We are so sorry about this, but it is actually not our fault, and is unfortunately beyond our control - </div>

Update: The Fool's Dog, who created the Wildwood app, said: '<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #333333; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 17px;">We are hoping to have a version of the Wildwood Tarot app with the new card back and revised text early next year. However, there are still a few details to work out, so I can't say anything for certain just yet.'</span><br />

<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
How do you gauge which level of
reversal to apply to a reading? This may be clearly visible from
within the context and from being with the querent you are reading
for.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
EXAMPLE 1: Here is a three card reading
for a man asking about his tour company which has been very hard hit
in the recession: he wants to know what he’s doing wrong. He draws
Queen of Bows reversed, 15 Death reversed, Six of Arrows. He
feel’s he’s been too generous in his ideas which are now working
against him. He’s not been taking up the challenge of recession
and now he’s stuck in a stagnating business rut. We see that the
man is his own worst enemy but that he’s aware of the problem: the
reversals are on the gauge of between abating and restrained. He’s
seen the writing on the wall and has been hitting the blockages
enough to know it’s time to more on. The 6 of Arrows says ‘move
away from here.’
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jGYTlYFCZDI/UHlttEi7ypI/AAAAAAAACEs/zEfpfN-Hm9s/s1600/rx+spread.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="205" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jGYTlYFCZDI/UHlttEi7ypI/AAAAAAAACEs/zEfpfN-Hm9s/s400/rx+spread.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
EXAMPLE 2 Here’s a more serious
question for a woman whose health is not good but who wants to
travel, perhaps one last trip before it’s too late. She asks ‘What
is important to focus on in preparing for this trip?’</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WTIGn8vRX-A/UHlvAhemtUI/AAAAAAAACE0/5boXpJ4M0q8/s1600/rx+spread+2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="210" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WTIGn8vRX-A/UHlvAhemtUI/AAAAAAAACE0/5boXpJ4M0q8/s400/rx+spread+2.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: center;">
16 Blasted Oak, 3 Stones reversed, 7
Vessels reversed
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Blasted Oak is reminding her that
recent trauma has left her shaken and that she will need to bear this
in mind in her planning. Doing things slowly and at her own pace
rather than running at things is best. The 3 Stones reversed I
immediately feel is in transferred mode, from just being with her.
She seems to be drawing upon old sources of creative nourishment
until they’ve been drunken dry. I suggest that she might look at
other alternative sources that will feed her: to consider some new
locations on her trip that will give her fresh wells of wisdom and
nurture, or to consider a heart’s desire that she’s up till now
been ignoring. Here reversed 7 Vessels is showing its obverse –
instead of following her illusions or memories, this woman is waking
up to what is clear and desirable for her, and I take this as a good
sign of her desire to change, which will in turn affect her health in
a good way. She could be looking at making a travel list, ensuring
that details of transfers work for her slowed-down body and that
fatigue is fended off by good planning. I know that such clarity is
often experienced by people who are facing death. Aloud, I encourage
clear focus upon what she needs and wants now, rather than making
decisions based on how things have been. She needs the blessing of
this trip which for her is like a pilgrimage, I suspect.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
EXAMPLE 3. This young woman artist has
an original project she is taking into an agency. We arrive at the
following questions together for this.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ooM3E35CWxI/UHlwhia8wxI/AAAAAAAACE8/w_zJOit1Mmw/s1600/rx+spread+3.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="201" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ooM3E35CWxI/UHlwhia8wxI/AAAAAAAACE8/w_zJOit1Mmw/s400/rx+spread+3.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
1. What is still missing from this
project<i>? 18 Moon reversed</i> feels in obverse mode: the
entrancing artwork is perhaps not coming over as well as it might
because of the presentation’s pack has an overly hard business
format. The words supporting the art needs to be poetic and symbolic
rather than definitions that might have come from a shopping
catalogue. More magic is needed. Perhaps she can find some poems or
write some?</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
2. What is its most important and
attractive feature? <i>9 Bows</i> is good and clear. The art is about
reactions to environmental pollution, so some of it has an
uncompromising reality conveyed within beautiful collage. This
shouldn’t be blunted as it communicates respect for the environment
without going into brutal realism.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
3. How do I make the most of my
presentation? <i>8 Stones reversed.</i> This feels like a tardy
reversal rather than a transferred one, because it appears to be
saying ‘don’t be so modest and retiring about your skills.’ I
can see that the artist has a natural feminine modesty about herself,
but that she’s not occluded by self-hatred or a paranoid
self-effacement. Speaking with dedication and engagement about this
project will serve her best.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
If you want to explore reversals in
deeper ways then I warmly recommend <i>The Complete Book of Tarot
Reversals </i>by Mary Greer.</div>

How do we cope with reversals? If
you’re a beginner, as I was back in 1969, you probably have enough
on your hands just getting to grips with 78 cards, never mind what
they might be doing in different positions.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<i>The Wildwood Tarot</i> doesn’t
list reversed meanings in the book, mostly because neither Mark nor
John personally use them because they are visual readers who like an
upright image to read with. But this doesn’t mean to say that<i> you</i> can’t
use them.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
If you look at tarot books the world
over, you will find that different writers give different kinds of
reversals. This is a big variable in tarot, mostly because
individual readers have learned their own method of reversal rather
than slavishly following someone’s method. Before you pull faces
at this variance, look at it this way: it means<i> you</i> are free
to decide how to gauge reversals for yourself.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
If you are used to reading reversals
you will have your own methods already established, but you will have
already discovered that there are degrees of difference as to how to
read them. While XIII Death/ XIII The Journey reversed can mean
‘escape from death’ it could also have the connotation of ‘a
living death,’ for example.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
If you are new to reversals, let’s
look at five simple ways of reading them which you can remember by
the simple acronym of TAROT. Reversals can be gauged as:</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b><i>Tardy </i>– slowing things down,
trailing its coat or reluctant to reveal its quality</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b><i>Abate</i>– it can abate or reverse
the card’s usual effect</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b><i>Restrained</i> – it can indicate
stuckness, obstacles or restraint.</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b><i>Obverse</i> – just as a coin has a
head and tail, sometimes the card shows its complete reverse.</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b><i>Transferred </i>- when we are in a
weak place we tend to find compromises that justify staying where we
are or hiding out somewhere else: the card’s power is transferred
elsewhere not to us.</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Let’s see a single card in action, so
you can get the idea: I going to choose a happy card that makes
trouble for people when it shows up in reversals: XIX The Sun.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
A<i> tardy</i> reversed Sun is when the
sun is slow in coming out, or when expected happiness is late
arriving. You experienced this when you’re looking forward to
going on holiday but are so tired from your travel preparations that
you actually only start enjoying it on day 3!</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
An<i> abating</i> reversed Sun shows up
when, instead of things growing, they begin to wither. Instead of
the sun coming out, the day is gradually darkening. You can already
tell that things are slipping back the other way.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
A <i>restrained </i>reversed<i> </i>Sun
is when conditions in the card are trying hard but coming to little
good. We experience this as forced happiness or when we make
excessive attempts to get our health in the right place. We are
pulling against the odds and failing. There is a blockage or
something we are not seeing?</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
An<i> obverse</i> reversed Sun can be
when, instead of giving radiance and light, the sun becomes intense,
burning and overbearing. Suddenly you are in the desert under a
blazing heat that is not what you desire.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
A <i>transferred </i> reversed Sun can
be when we find reflected glory from living in the shadow of someone
else. Or instead of growing into your power as a human being, you act
in a naïve and immature way. It doesn’t fool anyone and can be
damaging to your self-worth.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Part 2 to follow.....</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>

<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The use of anthropomorphic imagery in
mythical and esoteric art is deeply rooted in prehistoric religious traditions
and the evolving relationship between the human psyche and the natural world we
encounter.<o:p></o:p></span></span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">

<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">As discussed in both the Greenwood and
Wildwood Tarot, the Lion-headed figure of the Hohlenstein Stadel is believed to
be 30,000 years old, at least and cave painting in Trois Freres Caves in
France and other images, figures and carvings around Europe are believed to be of
the Upper Paleolithic period, or about 40,000 years old.<o:p></o:p></span></span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The Assyrians and Babylonians both
included half-human half-animal figures in their depictions of their deities,
as did the later Greeks and Romans. <o:p></o:p></span></span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Most notably perfected by the Egyptians whose
lion-headed statues of the warrior goddess Sekhmet and Anubis, the jackal-headed
god of the rituals associated with embalming, mummification and the rites of
the dead are well known.<o:p></o:p></span></span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">During the filming of Robin Of Sherwood
I had the opportunity to discuss in some depth the symbolism of Herne The Hunter
in the show and what Richard “Kip” Carpenter’s own reflections on this element of
the show actually were. Besides the traditional legends associated with Windsor
Game Park and the God of the Wild Hunt in British mythology, Herne also
represented the human element in nature that is represented by The Green
Man/Green Knight mythos. A human hunter/warden of the forest, who is so in tune
and entwined with the cycles and the lore of the forest that the lines between
reality and otherworldly wisdom become blurred and the veil between human
experience and esoteric insight becomes transparent and amorphous.<o:p></o:p></span></span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It is with concept that we approached
the Two of Vessels – Attraction, the laws of which are mysterious and polaric
by nature. The unseen energy and body language exchanged between lovers in
instinctive and primal.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"><br /></span></span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">As I noted in
the reading points for the card: <o:p></o:p></span></span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">“The first
shared spark of attraction between two human beings can appear simple and
uncomplicated on the surface but usually the underlying psychological chemistry
and the subtle interplay that ignites that magical first exchange is complex
and eclectic. Human beings absorb millions of subliminal signals and messages
from those around us, and we unconsciously process these stimuli and react to
them every second of every day. We subconsciously absorb body language, scent
and non-vocal communication and react emotionally to them with impulses and
decision-making instincts developed over millennia.” <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In other words,
our “gut feelings” are a primal reactive sensory system that warns or allows
subconscious communication to filter up through our emotional responses and
then be assessed by the rational mind. Trusting our instincts in matters of the
heart is a vital part of our human “bag of tools” used for establishing trust,
empathy and compatibility of priorities required for survival and procreation. <o:p></o:p></span></span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">These instincts
are fine-tuned and if we act with sincerity and positive motivation are a good
guide when dealing with partnerships and romantic relationships. <o:p></o:p></span></span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The reverse is
also true. As I stated in the text for Wildwood Tarot, I believe: <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"><br /></span></span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">“Taking an
instantaneous dislike to someone is governed by the same set of prehistoric
sensory drives human beings developed when we roamed freely across the African
savannah, just as "love at first sight" is as valid today as it was
then. Our perceptions and signals are shared, acknowledged and reciprocated,
breaking through the protective barriers and forming the initial polaric bond
that is the foundation of deep and lasting attraction.”<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So it seems
fitting to me, when dealing with primal instincts related to trust and
attraction, that those elements should be represented by ancient and polaric anthropomorphic
figures, symbolizing the male and female energies within the situation or
inquiry.<o:p></o:p></span></span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">As I have also
stated previously, the gender and dynamic roles of the energies are not
intended to be states or attributes traditionally associated with stereo-typed male
or female gender roles. There are, in my experience, “Luna” males and “Sola”
females. We all contain elements and attributes related to empathy and
protection, ferocity and ambition and both can ebb and flow within an
individual’s personality as events, situations and experiences evolve and
mature within us. <o:p></o:p></span></span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Courier;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Some of lessons
within the Two of Vessels image are therefore to acknowledge and trust your
primal instincts and allow the ancient subconscious facets encoded within the
ebb and flow of any emotional dynamic, emerge naturally and flow freely and enable
the healthy emotional cycle to establish wellbeing and trust within any
relationship.</span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt; font-weight: bold;">THE
STORY OF STRENGTH AND JUSTICE</span></div>
<div style="margin: 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;"> </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wuCk1W8qRh4/T8SgjfCY1AI/AAAAAAAABdo/DHf-Pz7vjg0/s1600/woodward006.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wuCk1W8qRh4/T8SgjfCY1AI/AAAAAAAABdo/DHf-Pz7vjg0/s320/woodward006.jpg" width="200" /></a><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;">One or two people have
been asking why we chose to adopt the older ordering of the Major Arcana in the
Wildwood Tarot, specifically in the placing of the Strength and Justice cards.
Really this all goes back to good old A.E.Waite, who stamped his presence on so
many of the more recent decks. Most modern tarot </span><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;">creators
have</span><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;"> chosen
to follow this ordering of the Arcana, </span><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;">placing Strength
at</span><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;"> #8 and
Justice #11. In fact Waite was much criticised for this, many tarots users
feeling he had upset the divine ordering of the cards which had previously
followed both a numerical and astrological order. Aleister Crowley, in his
</span><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt; font-style: italic;">Thoth</span><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;"> deck, chose to restore
the original order – since when individual tarot creators have made their own
choice which order the cards would follow. </span></div>
<div style="margin: 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;"></span></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div style="margin: 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;">Before Waite, older
decks like the </span><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt; font-style: italic;">Marseilles</span><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt; font-style: italic;">,</span><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;"> placed Justice at #8
and Strength at #11 and when we worked on the Wildwood we decided to adopt this
pattern. So much was arrived at intuitively that </span><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;">it’s</span><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;"> very hard to say why.
The temptation is to say: “Because we did!”, but in fact this ordering, as with
several other factors in the deck actually has more to do with the pattern of
the Wheel of the Year than anything else. </span></div>
<div style="margin: 0pt;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin: 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;"></span><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;">Justice, the Stag,
shares its position at the spring equinox with the Archer and is associated with
sunrise and the element of air. Because for us </span><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;">t</span><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;">he Stag represents
universal lore and wisdom, where the energy of the universe interacts with our
human world, it seemed right for him to be here, overseeing the part of the
Wanderer’s journey from the renewed commitment that takes place at the equinox
and the deepening of the mysteries that happens when the Hooded Man opens the
door into the Great Tree. </span></div>
<div style="margin: 0pt;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin: 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;"></span><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;">This is a turning point
in the procession of the seasons and it is here that the judgement of the Stag
is needed. In this instance judgement means not only the decisive </span><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;">direction</span><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;"> of the Stag
</span><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;">to</span><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;"> both the Wanderer and
</span><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;">to
</span><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;">ourselves,
but also summons up our own innate judgment, our ability to see beyond the
moment and make the right decisions.</span></div>
<div style="margin: 0pt;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin: 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;"></span><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;">The Woodward occupies
the place of Strength and oversees the care and maintaining of the Wildwood. His
strength is there to support us in our journey from the Wheel at #10 to the
challenge of the Mirror at #12. His position is at the point around Lammas when
Bows become Vessels, transforming our relationship with the Wildwood and our
understanding of the elements of fire and water within us.</span></div>
<div style="margin: 0pt;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin: 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;"></span><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;">Essentially, if you
follow the pattern of the Wheel of the Year, you will see how each card opens
the way for the next. This has always been one of the strengths of the Tarot,
one of its more miraculous insights into the way our own lives are shaped. In
the Wildwood Tarot we wanted to follow that pattern as closely as possible,
hence our decision to retain this older ordering rather than following Waite’s
direction, which almost certainly came out of the ritual patterns established
though the magical workings of the Golden Dawn</span><span style="font-family: "Albertus Medium"; font-size: 14pt;">.</span></div>

Together with Connections Publishing (the original, brilliant publishers of the WWT) and the equally awesome Fool's Dog company from the USA, we are really pleased to announce the immanent appearance of The Wildwood Tarot app. <br />
<br />
Suitable for iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch running iOS version 4.3 or newer, the complete book and deck will soon be available to carry with you everywhere in electronic form. All of Will Worthington's fantastic art shines out even more amazingly in this format, and the app is both easy to use and dynamically readable. So watch this space for a full announcement in the next few weeks....Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4
